Overview of Learning Learning

There is no guarantee when sending children to school that they will automatically absorb everything the teachers try to pass on to them. Moreover a child's ability to recall information, is variable it all depends on how the information was passed on and how it was retained.

Of course we all know of “gifted” children but how many? The fact that they are recognised as “gifted” sets them apart from the norm. The majority of children span a broad spectrum in their abilities to absorb, retain and recall information. Recognition of these facts was the motivator for Jackie Harvey to create Learning Learning. No, it's not a typographical error! It means learning how to learn. Jackie observed these variations and tailored her teaching to take account of them. By adapting proven methods and creating her own strategies, the achievements of her classes were measurably improved.

Some children will excel in some subjects yet do badly in others, it is easy to say “I never had a head for figures so I suppose Jack/Jill takes after me” NOT TRUE. In reality you were unable to absorb what was being taught to you, maybe if it had been presented differently or you had been given strategies to help you, you would find you really did have “A head for figures.”
